Project Description

‘Decommissioned Mining Trucks’, Newman WA

ANTHONY CARROLL

Tell us more about yourself

Im Anthony, a geologist working in both exploration and mining with a focus on iron ore. In my spare time I love to travel and capture images of our amazing planet with a focus on landscapes and coastlines.

What is the background to the shot?

The shot was taken while flying over one of the mine sites near Newman in WA. These decommissioned mining trucks were once used to move iron ore in the millions of tonnes. Now the trucks are replaced by automated robotic dump trucks with no manned operators. These relics of the past are left to weather the harsh storms of the Pilbara in the graves they helped dig out.

What drone did you use to capture the shot?

I used a DJI Mavic Pro.

Why do you take drone photography?

Drone photography allows me to capture images of our planet that would otherwise be out of reach. Allowing you to get the perfect angle, drones can make anyone look like a professional. They are also extremely fun to fly!
