Project Description

‘The 6.39 to Melbourne’, Lal Lal VIC

ANDREW THOMAS

Tell us more about yourself.

I have been working as a self employed graphic designer for 30 years in Ballarat. I became serious about landscape photography in 2008 after a couple of trips to the USA. After 8 years and 16 trips to the USA I had a book published in North America highlighting all of the 59 USA National Parks. My book is now into its 3rd printing. I do a lot of photography in the Ballarat district on a daily basis which has been enhanced over the last few years by the ability to get the camera off the ground with my drone!

What is the background and inspiration behind the footage?

I’m a big fan of foggy mornings and am surprised by how often we get these sort of monirngs locally. I know the local district very well and when there is fog around I always have a location to go to to make the most of it.

What drone did you use to capture the footage?

I used a Phantom 4 Pro.

What led you to become a drone pilot?

Before I discovered drones I had tried mounting my camera on top of a 10 foot pole to try and capture a different viewpoint… drones have certainly solved that problem!
