Entries are open worldwide to those who are of the legal age to fly a drone. Videos must be taken from a drone and flown within the rules applicable to the location in which the drone was flown for the shot

You will be asked to sign up to the BIRDI platform. This is so that we can verify your identity AND notify you if you’re one of the winners! You are able to deactivate your account at anytime however please note that to be eligible for the contest you must have an active BIRDI account.

You can then follow the prompts to upload your video. Please make sure to read the content requirements as well as the Terms & Conditions closely.

Which videos are eligible?2019-10-11T15:06:25+11:00

All entries must be aerial videos taken from a drone. The drone must have been flown in compliance with the rules applicable to the location where the drone was operated. Entrants must guarantee that all information provided is correct and that all videos were taken by themselves. Entries with watermarks will not be considered. Inaccurate information may lead to disqualification.

Specifications:

  • We accept 4K(UHD) and HD footage with preferred resolution at 4096×2160, 1920×1080.
  • File formats that will be accepted are .mov and .mp4.
  • Clips ​must not exceed 2 minutes in length. We recommend submitting clips that are between 5 and 60 seconds long.
  • Videos should have no audio tracks (music, sound effects or otherwise).
  • Content cannot feature visible trademarks or likeness to brands or people and must contain aerial footage taken by a drone.
  • Recognisable people as well as all artwork and private business locations, as well as some other private locations, will need a property release once accepted.

A submitted video can be shot at any time, just remember the contest is open worldwide to those who are of legal age to fly a drone. Videos must be taken from a drone and flown in compliance with the rules applicable to the location where the drone was operated.

Yes, there are no limits on the number of entries you can submit. 

Do I enter once and my video is included in every week’s judging?2019-10-21T12:32:07+11:00

Your entry is only eligible for the week you enter.

For example: if you enter during Week 1 that entry is only eligible to win week 1. However, if you are unsuccessful during week 1 you can enter again during the following weeks.

If my entry is unsuccessful can I enter it the following week?2019-10-21T12:06:08+11:00

Yes, there are no limits on the number of entries you can submit each week. The more entries you make the more chances to win!

What are the contest dates?2019-10-14T10:52:53+11:00

The contest starts on Monday October 14th, 2019 at 8am UTC. From October 14th to November 18th you have a chance to win a cash prize of USD $500 USD EACH week.

Entries close at 8am UTC on Monday:

  1. Week 1 closes – October 21, 2019;
  2. Week 2 closes – October 28, 2019;
  3. Week 3 closes – November 4, 2019;
  4. Week 4 closes – November 11, 2019; and
  5. Week 5 closes – November 18, 2019.

Weekly winners announced: Thursday of each week

Overall winner announced: Week of 25th November

Merr Watson

Merr is an Aerial Photographer and visual artist specialising in landscape, travel and ocean photography. Her work has been featured from reputable brands including DJI, Conde Nast Traveler, Qantas, Beautiful Destinations and more.

Spencer Frost

Spencer is a Filmmaker and Aerial and Underwater Cinematographer. Spencer has worked with a number of international brands, agencies and production companies including BBC Earth, RED BULL Media House, Ducati, Corona, Telstra, BMW, Destination NSW, The North Face, Audi Australia, Red Bull, Hungry Jacks, Air New Zealand, Nutrigrain, Powerade, and Destination Queenstown just to name a few.

From October 14th to November 18th you have a chance to win a cash prize of USD $500 EACH week.

On top of that each weekly winner will receive Canva Pro free for one year. Each of the 5 weekly winners will go into the draw to win the major cash prize of USD $1,000!

How do I know if I’ve won?2019-10-04T05:27:42+11:00

BIRDI will send confirmation emails to each winners’ registered email addresses. A confirmation email will include terms that need to be accepted and information that must be provided. Winners are required to reply to confirmation emails during a designated period to accept prizes. Failure to do so will result in automatic waiving of the prize, with the Promoters having sole discretion to award the prize to another entrant.

Do I keep my copyright?2019-10-14T10:54:46+11:00

No, copyright of the video footage is transferred to BIRDI. Make sure to refer to the Drone Video Contest Terms and Conditions.

Do I need a BIRDI account?2019-10-11T15:09:34+11:00

To enter the contest you need to have a BIRDI account. You will be asked to sign up to the BIRDI platform so that we can verify your identity AND notify you if you’re one of the winners!
