BIRDI, Pexels & Canva have teamed up to launch a global drone video contest, ‘Explore the World from Above’, with the aim of empowering creatives and highlighting the work of talented drone users around the world. Until November 18th, drone users have a chance to win USD $500 each week as well as a 1 year subscription to Canva Pro and entry into the grand prize of USD $1,000.
Behind every video is a talented drone user and a beautiful story. During the drone video contest we will give you the story behind each week’s winning drone user and video.
Meet Jorge Tapia the talent behind the week 4 winning video ‘Videographer’. California resident Jorge Tapia has a background in sound recording and production but his true passion lies in creating videos.
Now a freelance filmmaker, Jorge’s experimentation with filming began just as a bit of fun filming weddings and different social events. Quickly realising this new passion Jorge immersed himself in filming as many different types of videos as he could – music videos, tourism videos, marketing videos and more!
“I am convinced that to obtain a good video it is not always necessary to be at the right time but it has to do more with the way you capture that moment.”
Week 4’s winning video ‘Videographer’ was inspired by an incredible sunset the reflection of an amazing sunset at Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flats in Bolivia. By using his DJI Mavic Pro 2 to capture the reflection of the sunset, Jorge was able to create a magical moment.
“I began using drones because of the way they can expand your vision to reach places that could not be seen otherwise.”
Tips for Drone Photographers/Videographers
We asked Jorge to share his tips for other drone photographers/videographers and here’s what he said;
“Be sure to stop and think of all the possible flight paths before you begin flying your drone. Make sure to keep in mind aviation regulation as well as guidelines for a great composition. But most important of all, take your time and start slow.”
