Behind every image is a talented drone pilot and a beautiful story. During our Drone Photo Contest we will give you background to the week's winning pilot and shot. Week two didn't disappoint with a huge amount of stunning images of Australia entered. Congratulations to this week's winning pilot Anthony Carroll for his shot 'Decommissioned Mining Trucks' taken in Newman WA.
Meet Anthony Carroll a geologist working in both exploration and mining, with a focus on iron ore. In his spare time Anthony loves to travel and capture images of landscapes and coastlines. With his DJI Mavic Pro, Anthony uses drone photography as it allows him to capture images of our planet that would otherwise be out of reach.
What's the story behind Anthony's winning shot? 'Decommissioned Mining Trucks' was taken while flying over one of the mine sites near Newman in Western Australia. The decommissioned mining trucks featured in the shot were once used to move iron ore in the millions of tonnes! Now the trucks are replaced by automated robotic dump trucks with no manned operators. These relics of the past are left to weather the harsh storms of the Pilbara in the graves they helped dig out.
Follow Anthony on Instagram. We look forward to continuing to highlighting our pilots and their talent on the BIRDI platform!
